Language Learning in a Cultural Context: An Approach That Transforms Outcomes

  Contemporary linguistic and pedagogical research confirms that language learning is significantly more effective when carried out within a cultural context. Language is not merely a tool for communication—it is also a carrier of cultural identity. For foreign learners, integrating cultural elements into the language learning process—such as traditions, customs, historical and cultural facts, arts, cuisine, and more—promotes deeper understanding and encourages the ability to think in the target language.

  Culture plays a vital role in enhancing learner motivation, developing intercultural skills, and accelerating the acquisition of linguistic material. Within the framework of such educational programs, some of the most effective tools include watching films and animated movies, exploring the works of national authors, and participating in lessons that provide information about well-known figures of Armenian origin.

  This model allows learners not only to acquire proficiency in the language but also to better understand the worldview of its native speakers. Such a comprehensive approach increases the overall effectiveness of instruction and makes the learning process more engaging and meaningful.

  Experience reveals that students often perceive lessons taught within this context as the most memorable and interesting. For instance, the animated film “Found Dream” became a significant discovery for students, offering a glimpse into Armenian cinematic art while also improving their listening, comprehension, and translation skills.
